In your Own Skin

August, of course, is celebrated as Women’s Month, and in South Africa, with Women’s Day celebrated on 9 August to commemorate the more than 20,000 South African women of all races who staged a march on the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950. The march was led by Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophia Williams, and has come to symbolise the courage and strength of women in South Africa.

At Down To Earth, we sing and celebrate South African women. We value women. Plain and simple. It’s an ethos that is grounded in respect and care – for our clients, ourselves, for the environment, the natural ingredients that we use, and the consideration for our future through the promotion of a plant-based diet and an environmentally sustainable lifestyle.

It also means that we understand the value of living close to nature – in tune with her rhythms, protecting instead of exploiting, and inspiring others to do the same.

And in much the same way, our products are living proof of the power of natural simplicity. Nothing artificial, nothing harmful, just the right combination of ingredients that work together to bring you the very best in nature-based skincare.

That’s important, because it’s a practical philosophy in our business that lends itself to longevity – yours and ours – and also reflects the integrity of our customers and their families.

TRUE TO NATURE, TRUE TO YOURSELF

We’re in the skincare business, but we recognize that beauty truly isn’t just skin deep. In a society where women have for so long been subjected to cookie-cutter expectations, nothing makes us happier than when we see women simply being who they are – and being comfortable with it.

Being authentic.

If you think about it, one of the unexpected side effects of the progressive social shifts we’re seeing – greater casual online presence, less commuting, traditional business and social structures giving way to comfortable informality – has been a very welcome return to people embracing greater honesty in the way they portray themselves.

Perhaps the glossy veneer of media expectation has become too tiresome over the years, and as women, we’re (re)discovering just how empowering it can be to speak our own truth.

What’s even more thrilling is the fact that this quiet revolution transcends the generation gap. Women of all ages around the world are embracing authenticity, and in the process, they’re changing attitudes and earning enormous respect at every level.

As Maya Angelou put it so beautifully, “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.”

We’re proud to be part of the very real shift that’s happening, and we pledge to always remain true to the way we conduct business, treat people, and safeguard the environment for the next generation.

RELAX – YOU’VE GOT THIS

When you’re comfortable in your own skin – both literally and figuratively speaking – it’s a tremendously liberating experience. It removes the expectation to conform, it emphasizes being rather than just doing, and it’s something powerful to be enjoyed and celebrated.

Our range of Down To Earth skincare products is designed to protect, nurture, and heal. Whether you’re an adolescent or a woman with a more mature skin, we have something to suit you perfectly. Looking after yourself and loving the skin you’re in is a lifelong journey, and we’re committed to helping you do just that.

This month, we’d like to gently remind you of your personal power. We’d like to remind you of your purpose, which is to simply share your amazing presence. And most of all, we’d like to remind you of the profound impact of truthful simplicity – the impact of just being yourself.

The products you buy, the choices you make, and the steps you take, are all part of who you are and the legacy that you create.

Be true to yourself, and know that at Down To Earth, we’ll be with you every step of the way.

Happy Women’s Month!
